Stripe Atlas: What It Costs and the Best Alternatives in 2026
By John Rush
Checked November 4, 2026 · How we score
Stripe Atlas is the best-known way for a founder anywhere in the world to get a US company. It's also not the cheapest, only does Delaware, and isn't the right answer for a lot of the people who search for it. Here's what Atlas actually includes, what it costs after year one, and the alternatives worth comparing — I'll stay neutral; several are good for different founders.
What is Stripe Atlas and how much does it cost?
According to Stripe's Atlas page (checked November 2026):
- Price: $500 one-time, including Delaware state filing fees and the first year of registered agent service.
- After year one: registered agent renews at $100/year.
- Entity types: Delaware C-corporation, Delaware LLC, or a subsidiary of an existing company. Delaware only.
- Included: next-day Delaware filing, EIN, founder stock issuance, 83(b) election filing (a big deal for C-corp founders), legal templates, fundraising tools such as post-money SAFE templates, Stripe product credits and partner discounts.
- Speed: incorporation in about one business day; the EIN can take longer for non-US founders.
Atlas says more than 170,000 founders have used it, and that it forms one in four new Delaware C-corps.
What Atlas doesn't include: Delaware franchise tax and annual report (C-corp: $175 minimum + $50 report, if you use the right calculation method; LLC: $300/year for 2025, rising to $400 from tax year 2026), bookkeeping, US tax returns (including the Form 5472 a foreign-owned LLC must file), or any state outside Delaware.
Who should use Stripe Atlas?
Atlas is a strong pick if all of these are true:
- You want a Delaware C-corp because you plan to raise from US investors or apply to accelerators.
- You value the 83(b) filing, cap table setup and SAFE templates being done right.
- You'll use Stripe for payments anyway.
It's a weaker pick if you're a solo founder who wants a simple LLC for an online business: a Delaware LLC costs more per year than Wyoming or New Mexico, and you're paying $500 for things you won't use. See Delaware vs Wyoming LLC.
What are the best Stripe Atlas alternatives?
Prices are each provider's own published pricing or recent reported pricing as of late 2026; state fees are extra unless stated.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe Atlas | $500 one-time incl. DE fees; $100/yr agent | Delaware | C-corp, LLC | VC-track founders using Stripe |
| Firstbase | Start $399 list (promos as low as $99) + state fee; agent $299/yr | DE, WY | C-corp, LLC | Founders wanting add-on mailroom, accounting, tax |
| doola | From ~$297/yr + state fee | All 50 | LLC, C-corp | Non-resident LLC owners who want compliance bundled |
| Clerky | ~$427 pay-per-use or ~$819 lifetime package + state fees | Delaware | C-corp | Legal-document quality for VC startups |
| Northwest Registered Agent | $39 + state fee; agent free year 1, then $125/yr | All 50 | LLC, corp | Cheap, privacy-focused LLCs |
| ZenBusiness | $0 base + state fee; paid tiers and add-ons | All 50 | LLC, corp | US residents wanting a dashboard |
| Every.io | $0 incorporation | Delaware | C-corp | Startups that also want banking/payroll/accounting |
| Estonia e-Residency | €150 ID + €265 company state fee | Estonia | OÜ (private limited) | Founders wanting an EU company |

Which alternative should I pick?
Raising VC, want maximum legal hygiene → Clerky or Atlas. Clerky is built by startup lawyers and is strong on paperwork for financings; Atlas is more of an all-in-one with Stripe perks.
Want a Delaware C-corp for as little as possible → Every.io. Incorporation is $0; the business model is upselling banking, payroll and accounting. Read what you're signing up for.
Solo founder outside the US, selling online → doola, Firstbase or Northwest + DIY. A Wyoming or New Mexico LLC costs $50–$100 in state fees. Northwest at $39 plus fees is the cheapest done-for-you route; doola and Firstbase cost more but bundle EIN filing, address, and (at higher tiers) Form 5472 and bookkeeping — which for a non-resident is where the real risk is. Our LLC for non-US residents guide explains why.
US resident, simple LLC in your home state → file yourself or ZenBusiness/Northwest. You don't need Atlas; the state website and the free IRS EIN tool take an hour. See how to start an LLC.
Want an EU company, not a US one → Estonia e-Residency. €150 for the digital ID (rising to €165 in January 2027), €265 to register an OÜ, then a service provider such as Xolo or an accountant. 0% tax on retained profit, 22% on distributions. Full guide: Estonia e-Residency.
Moving to Dubai → a UAE free-zone package. Many free zones (Meydan, IFZA, RAKEZ, SPC and others) let you apply online. Headline licence prices range from about AED 6,000 in the cheaper emirates to AED 12,500–15,000 in Dubai zones, with visas extra. It only makes tax sense if you actually live there.
What does each option really cost over 3 years?
Rough totals for a simple single-founder company, excluding accounting:
| Option | Year 1 | Years 2–3 (per year) | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlas Delaware C-corp | $500 | $100 agent + ~$225 DE tax/report | ~$1,150 |
| Atlas Delaware LLC | $500 | $100 agent + $400 DE tax | ~$1,500 |
| Northwest Wyoming LLC | $139 | $125 agent + $60 report | ~$509 |
| DIY New Mexico LLC + cheap agent | ~$100 | ~$50 agent | ~$200 |
| Firstbase Wyoming LLC | ~$500–$800 | $299 agent + $60 | ~$1,200–$1,500 |
| Estonia OÜ (self-managed) | ~€415 | Contact person + accounting | Varies widely |
The cheapest option isn't always the cheapest outcome: a missed Form 5472 costs $25,000, and a cap table mistake before a seed round costs far more than $500.
What should I check before picking a formation service?
- Recurring fees, not the headline. Registered agent renewals range from $0 (if you're your own agent) to $299 a year per state.
- Who files the annual report and franchise tax — and whether it's included or an upsell.
- Form 5472 support if you're a foreign owner of a single-member LLC.
- Mail handling and a real business address, which banks and Stripe usually require.
- Exit terms: can you change registered agent without fees or lock-in?
Is Stripe Atlas worth it in 2026?
For a VC-track founder outside the US: yes, it's fair value — Delaware fees, an expedited filing, the 83(b) handled, and a clean setup investors recognize. For a bootstrapped solo founder who just wants a US entity for Stripe and a bank account: probably not; a Wyoming or New Mexico LLC through a cheaper provider does the same job for a fraction of the ongoing cost.

Frequently asked questions
Does Stripe Atlas form companies outside Delaware?
No. Stripe Atlas only forms Delaware C-corporations, Delaware LLCs and subsidiaries. For Wyoming, New Mexico or other states, use a provider such as Northwest, doola, Firstbase or ZenBusiness, or file directly with the state.
Is Stripe Atlas a one-time fee?
The setup is $500 one-time, including Delaware state filing fees and the first year of registered agent service. After that, the registered agent renews at $100 a year, and you separately owe Delaware franchise tax or the LLC annual tax.
Can non-US residents use Stripe Atlas?
Yes. Atlas is designed for founders anywhere, handles the EIN application, and sets up the company so you can open a Stripe account and US bank account. You still need to handle your own tax filings each year.
What is the cheapest alternative to Stripe Atlas?
Every.io advertises $0 Delaware C-corp incorporation. For LLCs, filing yourself in New Mexico costs $50 plus a registered agent, and Northwest charges $39 plus state fees with the first year of registered agent included.
Is doola better than Stripe Atlas?
For a non-resident who wants an LLC in any state with compliance and bookkeeping bundled, doola is often a better fit. For a Delaware C-corp aimed at venture capital, Atlas or Clerky are usually the stronger choices.
